Guts, determination and an abundance of skill from Under 10's

Every week we ask these kids to play one of the toughest sports in the world usually against much bigger opposition and they never fail to impress.

Today saw the young snakes take on two huge teams from Cambrian and the Valley Ravens.  The first game against Cambrian was played at ferocious pace, Cambrian choosing the more direct route through their big runners and Aberdare moving the ball wide, frequently showing a level of skill and class that impressed all spectators.

Aberdare scored some really well worked tries, competing hard at the breakdown to get quick ball for the strike runners to show off their skills out wide.

Cambrian were the eventual winners by 4 tries to 3 but a huge credit has to go to the young snakes for their team performance and their desire to play running rugby and involve all players on the pitch.

The second game against an extremely strong Valley Ravens team was always going to be a challenge, especially after playing such a fast and energy sapping game against a big and physical Cambrian outfit.  However, the young snakes again tried to move the ball through the hands and not just rely on direct running from the biggest players on the pitch.

During this game several players took some really heavy knocks but dug in and showed the true character that these little warriors from Aberdare have.  The Valley Ravens were extremely strong in defence and had a few players with exceptional pace.  It was this pace that caused too many problems out wide for the tiring young snakes and the Valley Ravens ended the game as deserved winners by 5 tries to 1.

This team played 60 minutes of continuous rugby today, their levels of fitness is a credit to how hard they work in training each week.  All opposition coaches were extremely complimentary about the way Aberdare handled the ball and organised themselves in attack.

A massive thank you to our outstanding parents who made the long journey down to Bridgend, not many clubs would be able travel so far and put 17 players on the park at this age group.
