In a brisk January afternoon, Aberdare played host to Barry at the Ynys, aiming to maintain their winning streak before the impending 6 Nations break.

The Snakes started the match with gusto, earning a penalty within the opening minute, expertly converted by Garyn Payne, giving Aberdare an early 3-0 lead.

The momentum intensified minutes later when Jack Kathrens opportunistic play saw him run 50 meters to score, and Payne's successful conversion extended the lead to 10-0 within the first four minutes.

Despite the promising start, Aberdare failed to capitalise further, allowing Barry to gain a foothold in the game through the Snakes' lack of composure and some avoidable penalties.

The home team secured their second try of the first half when Daniel Lewis acted swiftly in the line-out, powering over in the corner. Garyn Payne, in excellent form, converted, pushing the lead to 17-0.

Barry fought back, taking advantage of errors and penalties to breach the Aberdare defence and put points on the board, making it 17-5.

Just before halftime, Aberdare extended their lead to 20-5 with another successful penalty by Garyn Payne.

The second half mirrored the first, with Aberdare dominating early on. Club Captain Thomas Roberts executed a well-planned set-piece move within the first five minutes, securing the third try. Payne's conversion made it 27-5, hinting at a potential bonus point victory.

However, the Snakes failed to capitalise further until the latter stages of the game, and Barry enjoyed prolonged periods of possession and territory, attempting to break down the resilient Aberdare defence.

With seven minutes left, Garyn Payne took matters into his own hands, breaking through would-be tacklers to score and converting his try, sealing a 34-5 victory for Aberdare.

Despite the win, the Young Snakes acknowledged their less-than-stellar performance, recognising the need to elevate their game in the lead-up to the season's conclusion.

With the 6 Nations looming, Aberdare's next league challenge is an away game against Porth on February 17th.
