Aberdare, traveled to the City with determination after last week’s defeat, and they certainly delivered with a dominant performance in a high-scoring encounter.
The Snakes made an electric start, scoring within the first two minutes through a powerful run by Garin Enoch, who crossed in the corner to give Aberdare an early 0-5 lead. A penalty soon after by Garyn Payne extended the score to 0-8, showing Aberdare’s early confidence.
The Snakes were relentless in the first half, with a clever lineout move leading to their second try, courtesy of hooker Ben Staton. Nathan Terry added another try, capitalising on a rolling maul to push the score to 0-18 in Aberdare’s favour. Then came a well-worked team try finished by Kieron Parry, after slick handling and quick passing. With Payne converting, Aberdare surged to 0-25.
Just before the break, Thomas Hopkins added another try after a decoy run, capping a sensational first half. The halftime score stood at St Peters 0 - 30 Aberdare, as the visitors completely dominated.
St Peters responded strongly in the second half, scoring two quick converted tries to reduce the deficit to 14-30.
However, Thomas Hopkins halted their momentum with his second try, intercepting a pass and racing the length of the pitch. Payne’s conversion pushed the lead back to 14-37.
Although St Peters hit back with a converted try to make it 21-37, Hopkins completed his hat-trick after a great team build-up, with Staton providing the final assist. Payne’s boot extended Aberdare’s lead to 21-44.
Despite St Peters’ determination, adding another try from a driving line out to make it 26-44, Aberdare produced what could be the try of the season.
A turnover deep in their own half sparked a dazzling counterattack, featuring offloads and support play that culminated with Owen Young crossing the line. Payne’s conversion made it 26-51.
St Peters had the final word with a late converted try to bring the score to 33-51, but the game belonged to Aberdare.
It was an excellent bonus-point win for the Snakes, bouncing back in style. They now turn their attention to next week’s clash against Glamorgan Wanderers, aiming to build on this momentum.
