The Galapagos Association

The Galapagos Association was founded in 2009. It mainly comprises of the senior members of Aberdare Rugby Club, however this is not an age related issue and all are welcome to join.

The concept was built on the Victor Meldrew series of “Grumpy Old Men” and the Galapagos tortoise symbolises slow moving old Men! We try to have a couple of away days over the summer months. The Royal Mint Experience and the Millennium Stadium were two very enjoyable recent trips.

Our main aim is to raise as much money as we can which is then invested into the club.

We organise two dinners a year; The Club Dinner in March and the Galapagos Dinner in September. We have a top class after dinner speakers, we have managed to arrange, over the years, several ex-British and Irish Lions. Shaun Edwards and Jim Mills were two of our speakers who accepted our invitation to become Honorary members.

We welcome anyone who would like to join the Galapagos Association. If you are interested in increasing our numbers, please contact John or Jett who can be found propping up the bar most Saturday afternoon’s!
